Meet Your Provider
Nikki R. Smith, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC, FNP-BC
Welcome, I’m Glad You’re Here
Seeking support for your mental health is an important step, and I want you to know that you are welcome here. At CAMGREEN Psychiatry, my goal is to create a safe, compassionate space where you feel heard, respected, and understood.
During my military service, I completed a 15-month deployment working as a nurse in an emergency department, caring for service members in a fast-paced and demanding environment. This experience strengthened my appreciation for resilience, teamwork, and the unique challenges faced by military-connected individuals, veterans, and their families.
I am a dual board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC) with more than 20 years of service in the military and over 14 years of advanced practice nursing experience caring for individuals across the lifespan in the military-I have cared for children and adolescents who are struggling with changing schools, meeting new friends and learning how to cope with deployment. I have cared for military spouses who are navigating the military life and lingo; feeling alone and not know where to turn for help. As a veteran myself, I have first-hand knowledge of transitioning from a Soldier to a civilian and the impact it has on your mental health as you enter a different season of life.
A Career Dedicated to Caring for Others
Taking care of the military men, women and their families are what I am most proud of in my career. Caring for those who are military connected.. from DC metropolitan areas to smaller rural areas in Fort Leonard Wood, MO to larger medical centers in Hawaii or El Paso, my journey in healthcare has been shaped by a commitment to serving individuals during some of their most vulnerable moments. Throughout my career, I have worked in a variety of healthcare settings, including primary care, urgent care, pediatrics, emergency medicine, acute care, and critical care, treating both medical and psychiatric conditions.
These experiences have taught me the importance of seeing the person behind the symptoms. Health is complex, and effective care requires understanding the complete picture—your experiences, challenges, environment, and your goals.
Passion for Education and Advancing Healthcare
In addition to clinical practice, education has always been an important part of my professional journey. I have served as a Clinical Assistant Professor for two years and as an AdjunctClinical Faculty member for one year, where I had the privilege of teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate nursing students.
I enjoy helping others learn, grow, and develop the skills needed to provide compassionate, evidence-based care. My passion for education has also allowed me to contribute to healthcare through published articles and presentations at national, state, and local professional conferences.
Continuing to learn and stay connected with current research allows me to bring thoughtful, evidence-based strategies into the care I provide to my patients.
